Transition

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers to improve our TRANSITION process in our new Family Learning Workshops

The move from primary to secondary school can sometimes be stressful for both children and their parents and carers.  In order to both support and improve our transition process we invited those Year 6 students transferring from their respective primary schools to Aireville this year to attend, with their parents and carers, a series of Family Learning Workshops.

The Workshops, delivered by various members of our teaching staff, ran during the last summer term from 4 p.m. until 5.30 p.m. and covered a variety of activities to enable those attending to sample the types of teaching and learning which Year 7 students experience, and included science, technology, French, music, literacy, numeracy, and drama.  Staff were helped by student peer mentors selected to support transition primary children.

The workshops were a tremendous success so watch out for news of a repeat this year.  Our photograph shows Tori Laycock with her mum taking part in a Van de Graff experiment.
